‘I really recommend training as a Mental Health First Aider with Nana, as a fabulous, caring coach she facilitates a really safe, supportive space to learn in a group. Mental Health first aid is a skill you will hopefully never have to use, but you may need at any moment. I highly recommend signing up for Nana's course’.

If a person started to choke in a room full of people, there would likely be someone who could give the appropriate first aid to save their life. In that same room, there could be someone struggling with their mental health, but how many people would know?

Would you be able to spot the signs that could save their life?

Did you know that 1 in 4 people in England will experience a mental health problem at some point in their life?

The statistics from Mind also show 1 in 6 people in England will experience a common mental health problem, such as depression or stress, during a week.

That means if it isn’t you who is struggling with poor mental health, it’s someone you care about, you work with, or someone else in your social circle.

I have struggled from my own mental health difficulties.

Another person spotted the signs and showed me where I could get professional help.

As we have First Aid for our physical health, we should be providing First Aid for mental health. That is why I became a First Aid for Mental Health trainer.

First aid for mental health training

Who is First Aid for Mental Health training for and why should you do it?

Ofqual regulated, certified First Aid for Mental Health qualifications are suitable for:

  • Organisations who want to have trained staff to improve wellbeing for employees and the people they work with.
  • Individuals who work with clients on a 1-to-1 basis.
  • People who want to be able to help friends, family, and others they know.

First Aid for Mental Health Training will help:

  • Reduce the stigma that sadly exists around mental health.
  • You put the mental health of your team, friends, or family first.
  • Provide a stress-free workplace where your team will feel happy and be more productive.
  • Support your clients or colleagues who are struggling with their mental health.
  • Reduce the time employees take off sick.
  • You to spot when someone needs help and signpost them to where they can get it.

I will train you to:

  • Recognise a range of mental health conditions.
  • Start a conversation about mental health with confidence.
  • Know how to signpost another person to seek professional help.
  • Understand and put into place the first aid action plan for mental health.

Open courses for individuals are offered periodically and require a minimum of six participants.

‘Nana ran the Mental Health First Aider training for our team at Optimus and the feedback was incredibly positive. I would recommend her widely and will be booking her to come back to Optimus in the future. Nana was a professional and knowledgeable trainer and was open and kind throughout the training with a clear passion for the work she does.'
